The LTABC protects and promotes BC’s natural and cultural diversity through support of land trusts, conservancies and others. Our education, research, communication and financial services build land trusts' capacity and professional practices in addition to strengthening financial incentives and public involvement by linking healthy communities with land stewardship and conservation.

What is a Land Trust?

A Land Trust is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to the long-term protection of natural and/or cultural heritage. A land trust may own land itself, or it may enter into conservation covenants with property owners to protect or restore natural or heritage features on the owner’s land. The words “land trust” and “conservancy” are often used interchangeably. more»

Darkwoods

The lush valleys, rugged peaks, tumbling creeks, and deep lakes of British Columbia's Selkirk Mountains are both astoundingly beautiful and ecologically important. In the heart of this incredible mountain range lies a 136,000-acre (55,000-hectare) privately owned property known as Darkwoods. Here, wildlife, including one of the last herds of Mountain Caribou in the world, finds refuge, and rare plants survive. NCC has secured Darkwoods in order to create a conservation legacy of global importance.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada needs your help! The protection of a landscape the size and scope of Darkwoods is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Purchasing the property was just the first of many important steps to secure Darkwoods and protect our natural heritage. Now it is critical to raise the funds to support the long-term care and restoration of this precious landscape. more»
