Site Description: The site is gently sloping (west-southwest) to the edge of Quamichan Lake in the Cowichan River Floodplain. It contains a unique complex of threatened and sensitive ecosystems including wetland, riparian, Garry Oak and older second growth coniferous (Douglas fir/Grand fir) habitats. Along the lakefront is a significant portion of wetland habitat, dominated by shrubs (red-osier dogwood and willow). A small fish-bearing creek flows through a stand of mature Douglas fir and Grand fir along the property's southern edge before crossing a natural, open Garry oak meadow and into the riparian and wetland areas bordering the lake. The majority of the property is open pasture intermittently spotted with very large mature Garry oaks and divided by hedgerows of Garry oak and common hawthorne.
